Teens Next Door
This album was written and recorded as a form of catharsis after two really difficult events in my life.
The first one was seeing my ex–best friend get intoxicated with alcohol and fall into a pseudo–comatose state.
The songs about this event are:
*Teens Next Door
*How to Leave Town (Across The Sea)
*Teenage Super Soaker
*My Friends Are Gone (And I Miss Them)
The second event that inspired this album was me finally making amends with my ex. It was a short moment and honestly kind of uneventful, but it meant a lot to me since I was never able to make things clear and get some closure from that relationship.
The songs about this event are:
*Still Take You Home (1999)
*Katrina
*One For The Razor Blades
*My Head Is Killing Me Baby
I recorded these songs with the same equipment I used for my last album:
*An iRig 2
*A Fender Squier Jazzmaster
*A ZOOM G1 FOUR Guitar Multi-Effects Processor Pedal
*And GarageBand
I re-recorded some songs from my first EPs for two reasons:
1.Since this album is heavily inspired by Car Seat Headrest’s Twin Fantasy, I wanted to follow what Will Toledo did — re-recording songs to make them better and fit a new context.
2.These were songs I had already written about my ex or my friends, and they were songs my best friend liked.
This isn’t a “break-up” album or one pleading for my best friend to come back — it’s an album about accepting that these things happen, and that there’s nothing wrong with feeling down about them.
